Suburban Purgatory: On the listless summer of Tu dors Nicole

A feature piece for Fandor Keyframe on Stéphane Lafleur’s third feature film.

Suburban Purgatory

The summer of Tu dors occurs out of a fixed time, the dreamlike nature of the film’s plot and Sara Mishara’s cinematography run alongside the outdated technology on display: a credit card imprinter and a fax machine. Whilst the music of Remi’s band, provided by the aptly named Rémy Nadeau-Aubin, has a garage rock timelessness to it, the film’s score, by Montreal band Organ Mood, sounds like reconfigured ‘80s anthems, a strange echo of decades gone by.
